Two factions of Jubo Dal clash in Kishoreganj, 1 killed
A clash and shooting occurred between two factions of the Jubo Dal over dominance in Kishoreganj. One youth was killed and at least 20 people were injured in the incident. Houses were vandalized and set on fire in the incident.
Two factions of Jubo Dal clash in Kishoreganj, 1 killed
The clash took place in the Boulai Puran Bazar area of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon. The deceased in the clash, Md. Himel Mia (24), lives in the Boulai Puran Bazar area.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, there has been a dispute between the District Jubo Dal’s Information and Research Secretary Ali Abbas alias Rajan and the Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal’s Joint Convener Emdadul Haque over dominance in the area. This led to the clash between the two factions. Local sources said that the clash lasted for about two and a half hours. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals including Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj.
Local and party sources say that Ali Abbas and Emdadul Haque are involved in drug trafficking in the area.
The deceased Himel is said to be a follower of Ali Abbas’s faction. When the news of his death spread, people from Ali Abbas’s faction vandalized and set fire to Emdad’s house.
Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said that additional police were deployed at the scene after receiving the information. The situation is currently calm.
It was not possible to get Ali Abbas and Emdadul Haque’s statement on this matter.
When asked, District BNP General Secretary Mazharul Islam told Prothom Alo that Ali Abbas and Emdad will be expelled from the Jubo Dal for life. No concessions will be made in this regard.
